Lemonade Stands, Kids and Summer
September 12, 2018
Bill and Margaret Solberg, hospitality ministers at St. Ben's Community Meal, were pleased when one set of grandchildren chose to come to their home for a summer vacation. Sarah Joy and Seiler live on a farm in central Wisconsin, so they enjoy the opportunity to make a list of things to do in the city. First on the list was hosting a lemonade stand. This was a surprise to the Solbergs; but they soon realized that a farm may only have five cars pass it on a summer day – not a recipe for success.
Sara, Joy, and Seiler put together a plan with their city cousins to make tart lemonade and sweet brownies to draw customers to their stand. A nice hot day brought many customers and many tips to them. The kids had great fun waving down cars and “marketing” their treats.
At the end, all agreed that they wanted their profits to be used to feed hungry people, so they voted to donate their profits to St. Ben’s Community Meal. The kids were thrilled to see the money turn into large cans of vegetables that will feed many people at the Meal.
